Tomorrow is July 1, and it’s the first day of my 1-week trial run of meditation. I’m shooting for 15 minutes of simple meditation in the morning — lots of relaxed breathing and maybe repeating a focus word.
I’m interested to see how I’m going to do with that. I’m pretty damn good at being energetic and excited, but not so skilled at being still. The idea of having...

So… this is what the Spartan Workout assignment sheet said I should do today:
1 round for time:400m run40 burpees400m skip40 dumbbell clean, 20lbs.400m broad jump40 sumo deadlift high pulls, 20lbs.400m run40 squats
I said “Oh, no!” and my voice broke a little bit like a sob when I read the workout. Dave, in another room, asked if I was OK, sounding alarmed. The 400m broad jump looked...

One of the many lessons I’ve learned from doing CrossFit Bootcamp workouts is that while the group workouts are challenging, doing them solo requires me to be even more stubborn, relentless, committed, single-minded. I’m generally not competitive with others, but the social pressure to not wuss out while surrounded by my bootcamp campadres propels me forward at our group workouts.
Working out...

CrossFit Central held a UTB yesterday, and as always, it was a great workout AND a lot of fun. There were more than 90 people there. Rows and rows of us, dropping into squats and pushups on Jeremy’s command, while the curious and the slack-jawed lined the bridge over our heads, watching the action. The workout was challenging in a I-feel-fit-and-inspired way, which was good because it was only my...

…she knows how to use them…
I’m not complaining, and this is not intended to be a bragging session. I just want y’all to know that if I’m walking a little stiff-legged today, it’s because Crystal’s Bootcamp workout yesterday included 395 squats.
395.
First, we did 3 sets of 10 squats during the warm-up, then 2 sets of 10 squats with a PVC pipe overhead. So…...

Man! In my imagination, I’m wearing a dark military jacket with metallic ribbons and brass buttons, and those suckers are flying off my chest left and right.
I had a great Spartan 300 workout this morning. Prepare for bragging. (But no gloating. That would be unladylike.)
Last month, I finished first in my 300 Challenge group with a time of 14:53. I was pleased to have completed the workout (who knew...

Observant readers will note that I’m not shouting about my Sparta-ness just now. I’m tired. It’s 9:42 p.m., and I should be in bed — early start tomorrow. I’ve reached the point at which I’m so worn out, I’m made almost entirely of anxiety.
I know tomorrow is going to be great, but right now all I can think about is my to-do list:6:30 a.m. Weight Watchers weigh-in...
