Dave and I did our We Heart Burpees: A Valentine Workout this morning – with a few modifcations because a) there are AWESOME rocks at the park that beg us to jump on them and b) the ground was muddy and wet and we just really didn’t want to lie on it.
Our workout went like this:
Dave ran, and I did burpees (30). Then I ran, and Dave did burpees.
Dave ran, and I did squats (105). Then I ran (Getting slooooower.), and Dave did squats.
Dave ran, and I did rock jumps (26). Then I ran (Wow! I have a stitch in my side.), and Dave did rock jumps.
Today was an especially Good Day™ (despite the fact that what used to be “easy” runs are still kinda hard for me) because there’s a tall-ish-rock near the entrance of the park that I’ve been eyeing for a while. I tried to jump on it when we did the Filthy Fifty on Christmas Eve, but I chickened out. And then on New Year’s Eve, while sweating through the 2010: A Tabata Odyssey Workout, I tried again and cupcaked.
This morning, I FINALLY did it! I don’t know how tall it is, but it LOOKS scary and it’s all bumpy and uneven and, well… rock-like. Who could have predicted I would grow to love jumping on stuff?!
For our cashout, we did two sets of:
10 partner pushups
20 overhead throws, 10# med ball
20 ball slam + chest pass
Now, I’m parked on the couch in front of the Oympics. I’m a sucker for the fresh-faced kids and the middle-aged athletes, being all corny and focused and excited and triumphant and disappointed and all-together awesome.
I should also mention that I was inspired today by athletes closer to home. The Austin Marathon and Half Marathon course goes right past our house, so we started our day by cheering for the runners. Congratulations to all the runners!
