Rants & Raves – 03/03/12
Oh, the webbernet! It gets me all riled up with dire news and mainstream idiocy, then blammo! it hits me with something so awesome, it must be shared. Dear friends, welcome to this week’s collection of Rants & Raves.

Rants
Let’s get the bad news out of the way first, shall we?
— As it turns out, there’s more evil in wheat than just gluten. Oh, super starch! You are not so super.
— I know! Let’s replace eating real food and moving our bodies with a drug that causes heart problems and birth defects. We’ll all be skinny, so… WOOT!
— More like an UNhappy meal, really.
— Monsanto’s Neotame is like a cheesy, sexploitation, sci-fi film come to fruition — only without the fun boobies and spaceman costumes.

Raves
And now onto the really good stuff…
— Danish chef Thomas Rode Andersen says, “Bread is the devil.” Agreed. Although I kinda need to let him know I thought of Meatza Pie first.
— Stephanie Vincent is smart, strong, funny, and gorgeous… inside and out. I love that she’s forcing the mainstream to answer the question, “Does weight really matter?”
— Here’s an excellent way to pull one’s head out of one’s own butt. Who knew life could all be summed up so nicely in 9 insights?
— Giving new definition to the words “HAPPY FEET.” (I’m not ashamed to say, I’ve eaten food that made me that happy, too.)
— Are you flirting with paleo, or are you committed but feeling like your romance started to fade a little? Here are 50 awesome things about being paleo to make your heart all aflutter again!
— Our online book club is reading The Gifts of Imperfection, and we’ve learned that accepting ourselves is the first, key step to living a wholehearted life. Last week’s Ladies RX Discussion with Sarah Wilson throws out a challenge to write our own Self-Acceptance Principles.
— This has nothing to do with bettering ourselves, but I bet it will make you laugh. I, personally, can’t get enough word nerd humor.
— And finally, how much do I need this dress from designer Mary Katrantzou?!

Like what you've read? Got something to say? Lay it on me!

In regards to the un-happy meal:
As an american that lives in Norway.. I LOVE seeing that they are not allowed to market in any way to children. It is great, kids get to be kids and not marketed too!
There are some inaccuracies in the Monsanto article – factual errors, such as the fact that Monsanto holds the patent (they don’t anymore) and that it can be “snuck into foods” (which it cannot, by law) and that it didn’t undergo testing (it has, and in about a half dozen other countries besides the USA) The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has good info. ANd they actually fact-check http://www.cspinet.org/nah/05_04/sweet_nothings.pdf is a good place to start. Here is another reliable source debunking the stealth thing. http://www.cornucopia.org/2011/01/neotame-threat-to-organics-sponsored-by-monsanto-or-internet-hoax/
Not that I support Monsanto or artificial sweeteners… I’m more about total disclosure and absolute truth.

AWESOME DRESS!!!!!!!!!
Why did my earlier comment get deleted?
It wasn’t deleted. It was in the queue to be approved, and I just approved it. Patience, friend. I’m not tethered to my computer on the weekends
Thanks for sharing more great finds from the webosphere! You (and many others) make sitting at work more enjoyable.
Great post! 50 awesome things about being Paleo has reminded me why I eat what I eat. Sometimes a little refresher is nice.
I made your 5 Spice Ribs yesterday. HOLY DELICIOUS! There may have been a midnight snack involving a fork and a container of pork. I can’t wait to try the leftovers in soup tonight and pork fried rice (cauliflower, of course) tomorrow.
So glad you like the ribs — and I have a perfect visual of the midnight snack. Love it!
WOWZA. You would majorly rock that dress!
Right?! And I’m sure I can afford it, too
