From July 22 through July 28, I’m going to make it my job to be as fit, healthy, and well-rested as I can be. Because I’m curious… How much time does it really take to make health and well being our number one priority? And how much awesomer will I feel if I do it?
Day 5 Recap
As part of my new thyroid treatment (experiment!), I’ve had to stop taking my normal prescriptions for 10 days to get all of the T4 out of my system. I was very concerned about what that might to do my energy and mood; no one wants a return to the depths of CrankyTown that I visited in the early days of the Frankenneck. Until this today, I feel mostly OK — I even got a new PR at the gym this morning! —but then after breakfast, things started to get a little weird.
For example, while holding my keys in my hand, I said to Dave, I wonder where my keys are. Did I leave them in the office? Maybe they’re already in my purse. You guys… they were in my hand. Then I got in the car to go to kundalini yoga and drove to the Yoga Yoga South location. I got all the way to the door before I remembered the class I wanted to attend was at the Westgate location. And when I was cooking, I couldn’t find the lid to the pot I was using — the lid that was sitting on the counter directly in front of me. I kid you not: I looked in the cabinet, in the sink, on the kitchen island. It. was. on. the. counter. in. front. of. me.
I might be losing my mind. Or maybe it’s merely Olympics Fever!
1. Strength Training
It was our last hard day before de-load week next week, and it was Hard. But Good.
5 @ 75% of max = 115#
3 @ 85% of max = 135#
max reps @ 95% of max = 145# - I did 5.
My old 1 rep max is 155#, and I’m pretty excited to be inching closer to it in our multi-rep sets.

max reps @ 95% of max = 110# – I did… 3.
And the crowd goes wild ’cause it’s a PR, ladies and gentlemen… a new PR! I’ve never pressed 110# before, let alone three times. THREE! YAY!
2. Walk 4 miles
Done… half-assedly. I was falling asleep on my feet at 6:30 p.m. when I was scheduled to go walk, and Dave was worried about me driving in my spacy state of mind, so we walked for 20 minutes around the neighborhood together.
Fail. I meant to meditate just before bed, but read and fell asleep instead.
Breakfast: grass-fed ground beef, diced sweet potato, scrambled eggs, collard greens, coconut oil
Lunch: chicken sausage, zuchini & yellow squash with homemade pesto, roasted eggplant, cherries
Dinner (Repeat of Day 4 dinner. It was so good, we did it again!): tossed salad, green beans with olive oil & garlic, Chocolate Chili, cherries
General Well-Being & Random Thoughts
Um… THE OLYMPICS START TODAY! I’m knocking off work early to prepare our British feast and get into an appropriate Olympics viewing outfit, which I’m pretty sure is going to include my black feather fascinator (that I got in Paris… sigh), since there aren’t that many occasions for a girl in Texas to nod to British fashion with a fascinator. If there are feathers involved tonight, I’ll share a pic.
