From August 1 through August 23, I’m documenting my Whole30, including the when, what, where, and how much of my sleep, activity, food, and mood. Read about why I’m doing the Whole30 right here. Not familiar with the Whole30? Learn all about it here and get extra help with the Whole30 Daily.
Whole30: Day 7
And blammo! The high energy and euphoria of yesterday was replaced with moodiness and a short temper overnight. Four hours after waking up, I felt like I needed a nap, and that continued all day. I finally succumbed after lunch and snoozed for 2 hours, then got up, typed a bit, and went to yoga. LAME! This happens a lot when thyroid hormones are in flux, so I’m not surprised… but it’s not all that much fun either.
8 hours — 11:00 to 7:00
Kundalini yoga: The perfect class: lots of intense breathing plus a 12-minute meditation with our arms held overhead. SHOULDERS OF FIRE! Robin actually said, “Yeah… you get that ’7-minute shoulder burn’”… like shoulders of fire is a known thing. Woot and yeesh.
I’ve found my appetite is less ravenous, and I feel better if I eat in a 11-hour window — usually between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. so I can stop eating about 2-3 hours before going to bed — and don’t snack between meals or before bed. Because I’m dealing with my thyroid experiment, I’m measuring and tracking my food right now. I aim for 40% fat, 30% protein, 30% carbs.
Breakfast, 8:00 a.m.
3.5 ounces chicken breast
2 cups chopped collard greens
1/2 cup sweet potato
1/2 tablespoon coconut oil + Tsardust Memories
Lunch, 1:30 p.m.
SB&J Burger: 3.5 ounces grassfed beef burger w/ 1 tablespoon Sunbutter & 2 tablespoons strawberry “jam”
1 cup steamed broccoli w/ 1/2 teaspoon ghee & garlic
1/2 cup jicama
1 cup snap peas
1 Brazil nut (Selenium!)
Dinner, 8:00 p.m.
1 cup Chocolate Chili
1/2 head butter lettuce + 1/4 sweet onion + 1 teaspoon olive oil + lemon juice
1 cup steamed broccoli w/ 1/2 teaspoon olive oil + garlic
1 giant strawberry
1 teaspoon Sunbutter
Meh. Fatigued and emotional, plus my body is sore from my workouts yesterday. It felt SO good to lift and run yesterday, and today, I wasn’t feelin’ in a fun way.
Photo of the Day
A few weeks ago, I told you about some awards won by Well Fed, and I lamented the fact that my tiara hadn’t yet arrived. My mom remedied that problem. Mom always indulges my desire to act like a princess. (Thanks, Mom!)
Song of the Day
“Get It Together” — Seal
… the perfect feel-good song for your run, walk, morning commute, or strut to the bus stop.
