You know what says “New Year’s Eve”? Chex Mix!
You know what I’m not eating on New Year’s Eve? Chex Mix!
Need something spicy, crispy, crunchy, flavorful, and totally snackable for a special occasion or, ya know, a random Wednesday? Let me introduce you to Serundeng Katjang, or what I like to call Savory Granola.
Traditionally, serundeng katjang is an Indonesian condiment made...

“Oh, my!” and “Yay!”… I’m in for another Whole30! (Not familiar with the Whole30? Get the whole scoop here, then come on back and read on…)
Over the last 4 years or so, I’ve done a handful of Whole30 re-sets, and everyone of them has (a) been different from the others and (b) incredibly eye-opening and helpful in some way. Sometimes I take on the Whole30...

It’s here! I spent the summer sweating, typing, cursing, testing recipes, and fighting with the world’s most detailed and ornery Microsoft Word document template — and now Living Paleo For Dummies is on bookshelves. I wrote the book with my co-author Dr. Kellyann Petrucci, and like all the Dummies books, it breaks down the subject of paleo into bite-sized, easily digestible chunks of...

Sometimes, when I’m hard at work typing and thinking, or cooking, or just generally trying to get ahead in the world, I take a break to see what Smudge is up to. Sometimes, she comes to me. And sometimes, she just tries to hide behind stuff.
Seriously. Smudge thinks she can hide behind the Christmas holly.
This is what I see just before she launches a sneak attack on me.
I’m firmly on Team...

In an effort to offer counter programming to a Cookie WOD that might look something like this (or maybe that’s just me)…
AMRAP, 10 minutes:
1 giant Chocolate Chip Cookie
2 Russian Teacakes
1 handful Spiced Nuts
5 sips of tea
… I give you two fun workouts that can be done with minimal equipment and can be adapted to just about any fitness level. Grab your family, your friends, your kids,...

Sadly, it didn’t snow during our morning run, but it was a gloriously chilly 37 degrees Fahrenheit with brilliant sunshine. I’m on Week 5 of the Zombies, Run! 5K Training Program and have graduated to 10-minute “free runs” (where I run and walk as I see fit) with intervals of 60-second running drills alternating with 30-second walks. It feels SO GOOD! I didn’t want to stop...

The good people at Tendergrass Farms know just what to say to make a paleo girl’s heart go pitter-patter, stuff like… “We have a surplus of pork bellies right now. How would you like to offer them to your readers?”
Are those, or are those not, magic words?
(And do you remember when they let me give away a free, pastured turkey?! They’re a stand-up company with a cool premise;...

In my quest for lean superhero-ness, I’m following the Wendler 5/3/1 strength training program. Twice a week, Dave and I are hitting the craptastic gym in our Converse to lift heavy and crank through a mini-metcon.
The holidays are in full swing…
I’m not even pretending to be worrying about Whole30 guidelines right now, and it feels luxuriously wonderful. I’m still eating clean at...

I’m part of a casual writing group that meets once a month to share our writings on a particular topic. A few months ago, our writing prompt was “travel.” The first thing that came to mind was the incredibly moving, almost transformational, experiences I’ve had in churches, synagogues, and cemeteries on my travel adventures — despite the fact that I’m not at all religious....

This week marked the one-year anniversary of the publication of Well Fed. Can you even?!
It’s been a wonderful, crazy, challenging, celebratory 12 months since Well Fed traveled from our kitchen to yours. We launched the cookbook; I resigned from my full-time corporate job; we took a trip to Philadelphia for a book signing; I participated in PaleoFX and a kickass Paleo workshop in Colorado and...
