There’s something very lunch-y and comforting about tuna salad — which explains why I’ve been experimenting with it so much lately. It just feels so easy to grab a can from the pantry, then dig through the fridge for ideas. (Plus I’ll take any excuse to eat homemade mayo.) My husband Dave usually requests pickled jalapenos in his tuna, but today I was inspired by the glossy fresh...

Thanks to my newly-discovered love of watching football on TV, I’m super duper excited about the Super Bowl. (I even got a vintage-inspired Patriots sweatshirt to wear on Sunday to show my team spirit.) One of my fondest Super Bowl memories is from about a decade ago in California. Dave and I took over a table in a dark, wood-paneled sports bar with my parents, and we all drank beer and chowed down...

Dave and I enjoyed many fine meals while we were at the Ancestral Healthy Symposium: among them were Animal with our paleo foodie friends and 26 Beach in Venice, on the recommendation of Melissa & Dallas of Whole9Life. (If you live near 26 Beach, they now offer online ordering!)
To get to Venice, we rented bikes in Santa Monica and rode along the beach. What a day! The sky was brilliant blue and the...

Dave is a fan of my homemade mayo, but he confessed a few days ago that since his Whole30, the idea of tuna salad left him cold.

Which got me thinking: is there a healthy way to make tuna salad with a touch of sweetness and crunch?
And then I remembered the Waldorf salad.
Between you and me, I’ve always thought Waldorf salad – made...

Everywhere I look online lately, I’m tempted and delighted by Thanksgiving recipes – and trust, I will share some of my own with you in the coming days. But Thanksgiving is just one day. One awesome, delicious day… but one day, nonetheless.
There are 364 other days this year on which we need to eat.
For your consideration: Crazy-Good Barbecued Pulled Pork. This tasty hunk o’ meat will...

Back in the good ol’ days of my 30s, we lived in San Francisco. The economy was booming, swing music was all the rage, and we spent Thursday nights at the Hi-Ball Lounge (photo of Frank behind the bar, leopard velvet settees), sipping martinis and working on our East Coast Swing with the cool cats and kittens. We followed the Brian Setzer Orchestra on tour for summer vacation and rocked our faces off...

You know what’s awesome? A hamburger with crumbled blue cheese and hot wing sauce. The creamy blue cheese mixing with the tang of the wing sauce cooled off with shredded lettuce and pickles…. mmmmm. You know what’s not awesome? The sugar-laden, no-fiber, make-me-chubby bun, and the poison-me bleu cheese.
I found a solution: Burger Salad
You need:
shredded iceberg lettuce
1/2 tomato,...
